How it actually works
An air conditioner moves heat out of your home using a refrigerant that cycles through three simple stages.
1Absorb
Refrigerant in the indoor unit turns to gas, drawing heat out of the room air.
2Move
A compressor pushes that gas back to liquid, releasing the warmth outside.
3Deliver
Cool, filtered air is circulated back in at a steady, comfortable temperature.
Run the same cycle in reverse and it heats your home — which is why a modern AC is one of the most efficient heaters you can fit.
